Ante
A small forced bet every player (or just the big blind for the table) puts in before the cards are dealt.

- What it means
- In most tournaments an ante is added once the blinds go up. It is dead money: nobody chose to put it in, so it goes to whoever wins the pot.
- How it is calculated
- This app uses an ante of 0.125bb from each player, which is the same total as a big blind ante at an eight-handed table.
- Worked example
- Six-handed with a 0.125bb ante, the pot before anyone acts is 0.5 + 1 + 6 × 0.125 = 2.25bb instead of 1.5bb.
- Why it matters
- Antes make the pot bigger for free, which makes stealing it worth more. Players open wider and smaller, and defend and re-shove wider, once antes are in.
