chipEV
EV measured in chips, assuming every chip is worth the same.

- What it means
- chipEV treats a tournament like a cash game: doubling your stack doubles your value.
- How it is calculated
- Compute EV exactly as for cash, in chips or big blinds, and ignore the payout structure.
- Worked example
- At 10bb, a small blind shove is called 10% of the time with 40% equity, and otherwise wins the 1bb big blind. chipEV = 0.9 × 1 + 0.1 × (0.4 × 10 − 0.6 × 10) = +0.7bb, against −0.5bb for folding.
- Why it matters
- chipEV is a good guide early in a tournament and the baseline for push/fold charts. Near the money, ICM matters more.
