Win percentage
How often a hand wins the whole pot on its own once all five board cards are out.
Last updated
- What it means
- The share of deals in which a hand beats every other hand at showdown. Splits are counted apart, as ties.
- How it is calculated
- Deal out every possible board, or a large sample of them, and count the boards where the hand is best alone. Win plus tie plus loss is 100%.
- Worked example
- Aces against kings, all in before the flop, win about 81.7% of the time, tie 0.5% and lose 17.8%.
- Why it matters
- Win percentage alone undersells hands that often split. Equity adds half of each two-way tie, so it is the number to compare with the price of a call.
