Bet-size tell
A pattern where a player's bet size gives away the strength of their hand.

- What it means
- Many recreational players bet big when they are strong and small when they hold one pair, a draw or a bluff. Balanced players use the same size with value hands and bluffs, so their size tells you nothing.
- How it is calculated
- Watch the sizes a player uses and what they show at showdown. Once a player has shown that big bets mean strong hands, fold your bluff-catchers to their big bets and raise or call their small ones more freely.
- Worked example
- A calling station bets 100% of the pot on the river and shows a set; later it bets 33% and shows middle pair. The next time it bets 100% into you, one pair is beaten often enough that folding is right.
- Why it matters
- Bet size is a common read against weaker players, live and online, and balancing your own sizes stops good players doing the same to you.
