Calling a shove
Calling or folding in the big blind when the small blind goes all-in.
Last updated
- What it means
- The big blind side of push/fold, at 5 to 20bb. You already have a blind in the pot, which improves your price.
- How it is calculated
- Compare your equity against the shover's range with the equity you need. The needed equity is what you must add divided by the final pot.
- Worked example
- The small blind shoves 10bb. You have posted 1bb, so you add 9bb to a final pot of 20bb and need 9 ÷ 20 = 45% equity against the shoving range. At 10bb the Nash big blind calls about 37% of hands.
- Why it matters
- Calling shoves too tight hands the shover free chips, and calling too loose is the fastest way to bust. The price is exact, so this is learnable.
