False tell
A tell acted out on purpose to mislead you.

- What it means
- A false tell is behavior a player performs deliberately: a sigh with a strong hand, a confident stare with a bluff, a bet-timing pattern set up over several hands and then reversed.
- How it is calculated
- The better the opponent, the less weight any single sign deserves. Look for several signs together, at a moment that matters, against a baseline, and check them against the betting.
- Worked example
- A regular shrugs and bets 2 times with weak hands where you can see them, then shrugs and bets a third time with the nuts. The first 2 were the setup.
- Why it matters
- Tells work best against players who do not know they have them. Against anyone who does, a tell can be bait, and the betting line is the safer evidence.
