Multiway value bet
A value bet into two or more players, which needs a stronger hand than the same bet heads up.
Last updated
- What it means
- When two players can call, your hand has to beat both of them to win the pot, so the bar for betting for value goes up.
- How it is calculated
- The rule of thumb here bets for value only when your equity against one calling hand from each player at once, computed by the engine, is over 50%. Heads up, the same rule looks at a single calling range.
- Worked example
- On the river you beat 65% of one player's calling hands, a clear value bet heads up. Against a calling hand from each of two players you win only about 42% of the time, so you check.
- Why it matters
- Thin value heads up turns into a bet that only gets called by better when a second player is in. This is the multiway version of the value-bet rule and is a simplification, not solver output.
