Value bet
A bet made because worse hands will call it, so you win more when you are ahead.

- What it means
- You value bet when the hands that call are mostly hands you beat. The bet grows the pot you expect to win.
- How it is calculated
- Look only at the hands that would call, not the whole range. If you beat more than half of them, a bet makes money on average.
- Worked example
- The pot is 12bb and you bet 6bb. The villain calls with 20 combos and you beat 14 of them, 70%. The call is worth 0.7 × 6 − 0.3 × 6 = +2.4bb to you.
- Why it matters
- Checking a hand that beats most calls gives away the chips a weaker player would have paid you.
