Facing a 3-bet
Choosing to 4-bet, call or fold after your open has been re-raised.
Last updated
- What it means
- The skill covers the decision after you open and someone 3-bets. The pot is already large, and the opener's range has to shrink.
- How it is calculated
- Keep the strongest hands for a 4-bet, call with hands that play well in a big pot, and fold the rest. The price to call is better than it looks because you have already put in your open.
- Worked example
- You open to 2.5bb and face a 3-bet to 9bb. You call 6.5bb into a pot of 9 + 2.5 + 1.5 = 13bb, so you need 6.5 ÷ 19.5, about 33%, equity before position is considered.
- Why it matters
- Folding too much to 3-bets is easy to exploit, and calling too much bleeds chips in big pots. Both show up quickly in action bias.
