3-bet
A re-raise preflop: the third bet, after the blinds and an opening raise.
Last updated
- What it means
- The big blind counts as the first bet and the open as the second, so a re-raise is the third bet.
- How it is calculated
- A 3-bet is usually about three times the open in position and about four times out of position.
- Worked example
- The cutoff opens to 2.5bb and the button re-raises to 8bb. The button has 3-bet, and the cutoff now faces a 3-bet.
- Why it matters
- 3-bet pots are bigger and ranges are narrower, so mistakes there cost more. The "vs 3-bet" charts drill the response.
