Hi-lo (eight or better)
A split-pot game: half the pot goes to the best high hand and half to the best low hand of five cards eight or lower.

- What it means
- In PLO8 and Big O the pot is split between the best high hand and the best qualifying low: five different ranks of eight or lower, aces low, with straights and flushes ignored.
- How it is calculated
- The low also uses exactly two hole cards and three board cards, so it needs three different low cards on the board. With no qualifying low, the high hand takes the whole pot.
- Worked example
- Two players with A-2 tie for the nut low and each get a quarter of the pot. A hand that also wins the high takes 75%; that is being quartered.
- Why it matters
- Hands that can win both halves, like A-2 with a suited ace, are worth far more than hands that only win one way.
