Bounty (PKO)

Cash paid for knocking a player out; in a progressive knockout half is paid now and half goes on your head.

What it means
In a progressive knockout (PKO) tournament part of every buy-in funds bounties. Busting a player wins their bounty: in the usual format half is paid in cash at once and half is added to your own bounty. The drill counts only the cash half.
How it is calculated
Turn the cash into big blinds. A starting stack of chips stands for the prize-pool part of the buy-in, so with half of each buy-in in bounties a starting bounty is worth one starting stack, and its cash half is worth half a starting stack. Multiply by the shover's bounty over the starting bounty, and measure the starting stack in the current big blind.
Worked example
The starting stack is 16bb at this level and the shover carries a starting bounty. The cash half is 0.5 × 16 = 8bb, which you win on top of the pot when you bust them.
Why it matters
The bounty is extra money in the pot, but only when you win the hand and only when you cover the shover. Pricing it in bb turns it into ordinary pot odds.
