ROI
Return on investment: average profit per tournament as a share of the buy-in.
Last updated
- What it means
- ROI is how much a player wins on average for each buy-in spent, after rake. A 20% ROI means an average profit of 0.2 buy-ins per tournament.
- How it is calculated
- ROI = (total winnings − total buy-ins) ÷ total buy-ins. The variance simulator takes it as an input and gives the player just enough extra cashes to make it true.
- Worked example
- You play 500 tournaments at $10 and cash for $6,000 in total. You spent $5,000, so your ROI is 1,000 ÷ 5,000 = 20%.
- Why it matters
- It is the headline number for a tournament player, but it takes thousands of tournaments to measure: over a few hundred, luck swamps skill.
