BB (big blind)
The seat two left of the button that posts a full big blind before the cards, and acts last before the flop.
Last updated
- What it means
- The big blind posts 1bb before the deal. It is the last player to act preflop, so it closes the action and often gets a cheap price to call.
- How it is calculated
- Facing a raise, the big blind already has 1bb in the pot, so it can defend a wide range. After the flop it acts before the preflop raiser in most pots.
- Worked example
- Facing a 2.5bb button open, the big blind calls 1.5bb more to win a 5.5bb pot, needing only about 27% equity.
- Why it matters
- Defending the big blind correctly saves more big blinds than any other single skill preflop.
