Big blind option
The big blind's choice to check or raise when everyone before them has only limped.

- What it means
- When the pot is limped to the big blind, the big blind has already paid and can see the flop for free. Folding is never right, so the choice is check or raise.
- How it is calculated
- Raise the strong hands that want a bigger pot, usually to about 4bb plus 1bb per limper, and check everything else to see a free flop.
- Worked example
- The cutoff and the small blind limp and you hold QQ in the big blind. Raise to 6bb. With 72o, check: the flop costs 0bb more.
- Why it matters
- Checking a strong hand wastes value, and raising a weak hand out of position against several players burns chips.
