Check-raise
Checking, then raising an opponent's bet on the same betting round.

- What it means
- To check-raise, first check, then raise after an opponent bets. Checking alone does not say whether you intend to fold, call or raise.
- How it is calculated
- The frequency facing one bet size describes the range that reaches that bet. To combine sizes, weight each response by how often the opponent chooses its size.
- Worked example
- An opponent uses a small bet 60% of the time and a large bet 40% of the time among its bets. Raising 20% against the small size and 10% against the large size gives a combined check-raise frequency of 16%.
- Why it matters
- Different sizes can face different responses. An unweighted average can misstate how often a player actually check-raises.
