Facing a 5-bet shove
Calling or folding after your 4-bet has been met with an all-in 5-bet.

- What it means
- You opened, someone 3-bet, you 4-bet, and they moved all-in. The 5-bettor's range is mostly premium pairs and AK, so only the strongest part of your 4-bet range can call.
- How it is calculated
- Your 4-bet is already in the pot, so the price is better than it looks. Required equity = amount to call ÷ (pot after the shove + amount to call). Call when your hand has that much equity against the shoving range.
- Worked example
- At 100bb you 4-bet to 22bb and face an all-in for 100bb. You call 78bb to win a pot of about 123 + 78 = 201bb, so you need about 39% equity. QQ+ and AK clear that against a typical 5-bet range, while A5s is a 4-bet bluff that folds.
- Why it matters
- The whole stack is on the line. Calling with the bluffs from your 4-bet range, or folding QQ out of fear, both cost a lot. The ranges are approximate charts.
