Facing a 4-bet
Choosing to 5-bet all-in, call or fold after your 3-bet has been re-raised.
Last updated
- What it means
- You 3-bet and the opener 4-bets. Their range is now narrow and strong, so yours has to be too. At 40bb and below, a 4-bet usually puts the opener all-in, which leaves only calling or folding.
- How it is calculated
- 5-bet all-in with the very top of the range, call with strong hands that do well against a 4-bet range, and fold the 3-bet bluffs. When the 4-bet is all-in, compare your equity against their range with the required equity from the price.
- Worked example
- You 3-bet to 9bb from the big blind and the button 4-bets to 22bb at 100bb. QQ+ and AK 5-bet all-in, JJ to 99 and AQs call, and A5s folds.
- Why it matters
- Calling 4-bets too often costs big pots out of position, and folding too often lets a light 4-bettor run you over. The drill uses approximate charts, labeled as such.
