HJ (hijack)
The seat just right of the cutoff, two seats before the button.
Last updated
- What it means
- The hijack is the third seat from the button. At a 6-max table it is also called MP, the middle position.
- How it is calculated
- Four players act after it: cutoff, button, small blind and big blind, so it opens wider than the earliest seats but tighter than the cutoff.
- Worked example
- In this app's 6-max charts the hijack (MP) opens about 13% of hands, against about 11% from UTG and 24% from the cutoff.
- Why it matters
- Each seat closer to the button can open a little wider, and the hijack is where that widening starts to show.
