PFR
Preflop raise: the share of hands a player raises before the flop.
Last updated
- What it means
- PFR counts the hands a player opens or re-raises before the flop. Every raise is also voluntary, so PFR is never higher than VPIP.
- How it is calculated
- PFR = hands raised preflop ÷ hands dealt. The gap between VPIP and PFR is how often the player just calls before the flop.
- Worked example
- A VPIP of 26% with a PFR of 16% means the player raises 16 hands in 100 and flat-calls another 10.
- Why it matters
- A PFR close to VPIP marks an aggressive player who takes the initiative. A wide gap marks a caller, whose flats are capped and easy to pressure.
