Range notation (TT+, A2s+)
A short way to list many hand classes at once: a plus means this hand and everything better of the same kind.
Last updated
- What it means
- A range is written as a comma-separated list of hand classes, with a few shortcuts so a whole row of the chart fits in one token.
- How it is calculated
- For pairs, a plus adds every higher pair. For other hands, a plus raises the second card up to one below the first. A dash lists everything between two hands of the same kind.
- Worked example
- TT+ is TT, JJ, QQ, KK and AA. A2s+ is every suited ace from A2s to AKs, 12 classes. A5s-A2s is A5s, A4s, A3s and A2s.
- Why it matters
- Villain ranges and chart summaries are written this way, and it is how most poker books and solvers talk about ranges.
