Connected board
A flop whose three ranks fit inside five in a row, so some two-card hands already make a straight.
Last updated
- What it means
- Three different ranks close enough together that a straight is possible with the right two hole cards, counting the ace as low for A-2-3-4-5.
- How it is calculated
- The report calls a flop connected when its three ranks fit inside one window of five consecutive ranks.
- Worked example
- Q♥J♥T♠ is connected: AK and K9 have straights, and many hands have straight draws. A♠8♦2♣ is not.
- Why it matters
- Connected boards hit the caller's middling hands, so the preflop raiser's advantage shrinks and bets get more selective.
