Naming the reason
Picking the main reason behind a correct decision, such as the price, fold equity or hand strength.
Last updated
- What it means
- After some correct answers the drill asks why the answer was right. The options come from the spot's own explanation, so the right reason is known.
- How it is calculated
- The reason is graded and logged separately from the action. A right action with the wrong reason shows the real reason, so a lucky guess does not pass as understanding.
- Worked example
- You call a 10bb shove with A9o, which is right. Asked why, you pick hand strength, but the real reason is the price: you need 45% equity, and A9o has comfortably more than that against a range that shoves over half its hands.
- Why it matters
- Knowing why a play is right lets you handle a spot that is not on any chart.
